What this site collects, and what it does not

This site has no accounts, no newsletter, no comments and no forms. There is nothing here to fill in, so there is very little to collect. Three things do happen, and each of them can be checked against the site itself.

What is stored in your browser

One setting of ours. The light or dark appearance you pick is written to browser storage under the key gw-theme, so that your choice is still there on your next visit instead of resetting to the system default. It holds one of two words, it is never sent anywhere, and clearing site data in your browser removes it. It is a preference, not an identifier.

Cookies from our analytics. Google Analytics sets its own cookies on this domain — _ga and a second one whose name ends in the site’s measurement ID. They are how it tells a returning browser from a new one. More on that below.

Nothing else of ours is stored on your device.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get read, because otherwise there is no way to know what to fix first. It is the only analytics tool on the site and the only third-party script that loads on a page; the script comes from googletagmanager.com.

What that means concretely:

• It sets cookies in your browser, as described above.
• It reports aggregate behaviour — page views, referrers, rough location, device type — and we look at it that way, in aggregate.
• Google processes the data as part of providing the service, under its own terms, and their handling of it is theirs rather than ours.
• We do not link it to any other data set, because we hold none: no accounts, no mailing list, no customer records.

We do not run advertising, and there are no advertising or social-media tracking pixels on the site.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the IP address and request headers your browser sends, in order to deliver pages and to protect the site from attack and abuse. That processing is technically necessary for a website to work at all; the logs are Cloudflare’s, and we do not build visitor profiles from them.

Affiliate links

Some links to booking platforms earn us a commission. Those buttons point straight at our affiliate network, which forwards you to the platform.

The page itself loads nothing from either company — the button is plain markup, not a script or a tracking pixel. The link carries an identifier that tells the network the visit came from this site, which language version, and which block on the page. It contains nothing about you.

Once you click, you are on their property — first the network’s, then the platform’s — and their privacy policies apply, not ours. Both will typically set their own cookies. What the commercial side of that means is in our affiliate disclosure.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or share visitor data.
• We do not profile visitors and run no automated decision-making.
• We do not embed third-party fonts, maps, videos or social widgets, so nobody learns about your visit simply because you opened a page.

If you write to us

Writing to the address on our contact page means we hold your message and your email address for as long as it takes to answer, and for as long as the thread is useful as a record of a correction. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list, because there is none.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, and complain to your national data protection authority.

For the analytics data specifically, the practical route is your own browser: clearing site data removes the cookies described above, and browser-level or extension-level blocking prevents the script from loading in the first place. For anything held by us directly — which in practice means an email thread, if you started one — write to the address on the contact page.

Changes

This page describes the site as it is now. When what the site does changes, this page changes with it.
